The house was completed in 1854 and was designed to accommodate some of his many wives and children. It contains many original furnishings and items owned by Young. Tours of the house are available daily from 9am to 8:30pm and last about 30 minutes.

Eagle Gate

To the right, straddling State Street, is the Eagle Gate. This monumental gate was originally constructed in 1859 at the entrance to Brigham Young’s property. The gate has been enlarged twice, most recently in the 1960s. A wooden eagle used to sit on top but it was replaced with a 4,000 lb. bronze eagle.
