Park City

We made a quick lunch stop in the ski town of Park City, Utah, on our way from Evanston, Wyoming to Salt Lake City.

Main Street

We focused on the town’s historic Main Street, browsing through the many shops and art galleries.

We enjoyed the sculptures and street art along Main Street, including the Banksy. We walked past several outdoor cafés and restaurants that looked appealing. I’m sure the atmosphere is amazing at the bars during ski season and the Sundance Film Festival.

Egyptian Theatre

The Sundance, which has been held annually in Park City since 1981, attracts several Hollywood stars to the town every January. It’s been responsible for bringing attention to many independent films and filmmakers. The historic Egyptian Theatre, built in 1926, is used as one of the venues for the festival.

Park City Museum

Before lunch, we visited the Park City Museum, which has excellent displays on the history of the town and its beginnings as a Wild West mining town. Adult admission is US$15 (as of April 2023) and the museum is open daily from 10am to 5pm. It’s housed inside the city hall, which also served as the police and fire departments and Utah Territorial Jail.

There’s a scale model of a mine complete with working elevators, and a mining display in the basement. We also learned about the transition from mining to skiing and the history of the Sundance Film Festival. On display is the world’s underground ski lift that was once used inside a mine shaft, as well as items from the 2002 Winter Olympics.

Also in the basement is the Dungeon, which has cells from the Territorial Jail. The cells are creepy but an interactive display about real convicts who served time in the jail is a nice touch.

Main Street Deli

We ate lunch at a jam-packed Main Street Deli. They serve excellent gourmet sandwiches and coffees. It’s also one of the more affordable places to grab a bite along Main Street.
