The TelefériQo is a cable car in Quito that takes visitors 2.5km up the side of Volcán Pichincha. At the top is a lookout at an altitude of 4100m.

Visiting

Adult admission is US$9 for foreigners (as of July 2023) and it runs daily. Check the official website for current operating hours. A taxi is the easiest way to get there from the historic city.

At the Bottom

The TelefériQo station at the bottom includes a creepy amusement park and a large building where tickets are bought.

At the Top

The ride to the top takes about 20 minutes. Once at the top, there are a couple indoors cafés selling food and drinks.

A couple of trails take you to lookout points for less than spectacular views of the city. Theres also a small chapel and another trail to the summit of the volcano.

Conclusion

While the ride is nice, we weren’t as impressed by the views as we hoped we would be. It was the most expensive attraction we visited in Quito and we only spent about 20 minutes at the top. Other couples we met at the top felt the same. It’s kind of a waste and not a must-do.
