A few metro stops north of Medellín’s city center is Estación Universidad, where some excellent educational attractions can be found.
North of the metro station is the Jardín Botánico. This beautiful botanical garden has several plants and trees from several ecosystems. The paths are pleasant to walk through. It’s open daily and doesn’t charge admission.
Across the street is Parque Explora, an excellent hands-on science museum where you can learn about the human body, physics, and animals. Read more about it here.
Parque de Los Deseos
On the other side of the metro tracks is Parque de Los Deseos. When I visited, it was ull of booths featuring local crafts and souvenirs. There is a small amphitheater where a stage was being set up for a concert that night as part of the Feria de las Flores.
Planetario de Medellín
The Planetario de Medellín is located in Parque de Los Deseos. It features many shows and exhibits about the universe. Adult admission is COP$5,000 (as of August 2014).
Universidad de Antioquia
To the west is the campus of Universidad de Antioquia. It’s the oldest departmental university in Colombia, founded in 1803.
