There is a plethora of good restaurants in Medellín to choose from. Most of them are situated in El Poblado, the city’s upscale entertainment district. I try to get to a new restaurant every time I’m in town.
Bonhomía specializes in sausage and cheese. We tried a sampler plate of meats and cheeses as a starter and finished off sharing a sandwich and pork chop. The food was excellent and the price was reasonable.
La Causa serves amazing sushi and Peruvian cuisine at very good prices. We chose a few of the sushi specialties and were blown away at the quality. It was by far the best sushi I’ve had in Colombia. We also had a ceviche and loved it.
Some other restaurants we tried: Ay Caramba dishes out decent Tex-Mex. Royal Thai is a good Thai restaurant with reasonable prices. Nino e Pastino serves pasta, soups, and other Italian food. And of course, for ultimate comfort food, there’s the Hard Rock Café.
Fast Food on Calle 10
Calle 10 is the main street in El Poblado. Here, you will find a few more bars and clubs and some fast food restaurants. For good döner kebabs, try [t]ürban. Avoid the taboule – it’s terrible.A bit away from the action is an amazing empanada stand, Empanadisima. It’s located in a row of several other empanada stands, but this was the only one that had a line. We decided to wait to see what all the fuss was about. They turned out to be some of the best empanadas I’ve ever had, with several different sauces to choose from. If the empanadas are fresh, they are definitely worth a try. We went back another time when they were sitting for a while and were disappointed.
Outside of El Poblado, we ate at Fellini near Plaza Mayor. They make about 20 different gourmet burgers along with pastas, steaks, salads, and more. I went with a group of five. Each of us had a different burger and they were all excellent. There are several other nice restaurants located next to Fellini in the same building.
In addition, you will be able to find lots of good street food in and around Parque Berrío in the city center. There are fruit stands serving fresh watermelon and mango, popcorn, empanadas, and street meat.
