Greece vs Colombia. The setting was Belo Horizonte but the game might as well have been played in Bogotá.
On the shuttle to the stadium, Greek fans were outnumbered about 25 to 1. Inside Estádio Mineirão, it was worse. I was the only Greek fan in my entire section.
Colombian Fans
The energy showed by the Colombian fans was unlike any I had ever seen. They were respectful, friendly, and deafeningly loud.
After the game, just about every fan in my row came and shook my hand, telling me Greece was one of the toughest teams they’d faced. I disagree, but it was a nice gesture. I hope Colombia go very far in this World Cup.
Leaving the Stadium
Leaving the stadium was disorganized. My friend Mike and I had to walk at least 4km to the shuttle bus. It took about an hour to reach the city center. Getting to the stadium was just as bad.
Conclusion
Obviously I don’t have too many positives to take away from this game, so I’m hoping we suck it up and play better against Japan in Natal on Thursday.
