Las Condes is an area to the east of the historic city center of Santiago. It’s one of several districts collectively known as Santiago Oriente.

Sanhattan

After I finished walking through Providencia, I continued walking east along the Río Mapocho and came to the area of Las Condes locals like to call Sanhattan. This is Santiago’s answer to Manhattan, with a few glitzy skyscrapers, office buildings, and expensive restaurants and hotels.

Gran Torre Santiago

Gran Torre Santiago is the skyscraper that dominates the skyline of Santiago. It’s the tallest building in Latin America and the second tallest in the Southern Hemisphere. It stands 64 stories high. Construction started in 2006 and was completed in 2013. It’s connected to a shopping mall, Costanera Center. An observation deck, Sky Costanera, opened on August 11, 2015, on floors 61 and 62. It’s open daily from 10am to 10pm. Adult admission is CLP$12,000 from Monday through Thursday and CLP$16,000 from Friday through Sunday (as of May 2023).

Barrio El Golf

Barrio El Golf is another high-end area located in Las Condes. It’s also full of expensive high rises and some of Santiago’s top restaurants. There’s a golf course here that gives the area its name, Club de Golf Los Leones.

A main artery in the neighborhood that’s nice to walk down is Avenida Isidora Goyenechea. It’s lined with several very good restaurants and cafés.
