Kalamoti (Καλαμωτή) is a beautiful village in Chios, Greece, that I love wandering through. I usually make a stop to explore it on my way to the beach at Komi.
The village was one of the fortified medieval settlements found on the southern half of the island. It’s mostly inhabited by mastic farming families. There are also several fruits and vegetables cultivate in the area, including watermelons.
Architecture
The historic part of the village has narrow alleys with arches and two story stone buildings from the late 19th century. Some of the alleys are plain while others are picturesque and decorated with flowers.
Churches
There are a few small historic churches hidden in the alleys and a couple modern ones as well.
Doors
The doors in the village are worth paying attention to. They’re easy to find as you wander through the narrow alleys in the historic part of town.
