The Burgas seaside is a great place to spend a sunny day. Unfortunately, on the day I visited, it was gray and rainy, but I still enjoyed wandering around the gardens overlooking the beach.

Sea Garden

The Sea Garden is the biggest and most popular public park in the city. It’s filled with exotic trees and flowers and has several monuments scattered throughout. The park was laid out in 1910 and eliminated the swamp area between the city center and the beach. It holds a few festivals during the year.

The most important building in the Sea Garden is the Sea Casino Cultural Center. It opened in 1938 as a casino but was abandoned in the 1990s. The building was renovated in 2011 and reopened as a cultural center. Other buildings in the park include a summer theatre and a pantheon.

Central Beach

Central Beach seems like a great place to hang out on a nice day. It stretches alongside the Sea Garden.

Burgas Bridge

The Burgas Bridge is a pier rather than a bridge. It juts out almost 300m into the Black Sea from Central Beach.

The bridge was originally built in 1936 and ends at an observation platform. On St. Nicholas’ Day, sailors throw wreaths into the sea to honor sailors who have died at sea. On Epiphany, a bishop throws a cross into the sea and swimmers compete to retrieve it. The winner is said to have good health and happiness for the rest of the year.
