Sea Garden

Besides beautiful sandy beaches, Varna’s Sea Garden make a peaceful place to spend a day. The Sea Garden began as a bare field just outside of the city. In 1862, the Ottoman governor ordered a garden to be placed in the field. The first tree was planted that year. Later, the garden became the life work of Czech landscape architect Anton Novak. He began designing the park beginning in 1895 after he was invited by the local government.

Naval Museum

On the western end of the garden is the Naval Museum, dedicated to navigation on the Black Sea. The Druzhki, a Bulgarian torpedo boat, is the prized artifact at the museum. It recorded the only naval victory for Bulgaria during the First Balkan War in 1912 when it sank an Ottoman cruiser, the Hamidiye.
