Chernobyl was the scene of the world’s worst nuclear disaster. Access to an area of about 2,600 km² is restricted due to high radioactive contamination levels, although a small handful of people have been granted permission to live within the zone.
I was able to visit Chernobyl on a day tour booked six months in advance through Solo East Travel. The cost as of October 2013 starts at US$79 per person for group tours, with two-day group tours also available. Others opt for private tours that let you see more of the Exclusion Zone and the city of Pripyat, but they can get very expensive.
The following posts about the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone are listed in order of my visit:
- Tour intro
- Village of Kopachi
- Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant
- City of Pripyat
- Town of Chernobyl
